“Show me Your ways, O LORD; Teach me Your paths. Lead me in Your truth and teach me, For You are the God of my salvation; On You I wait all the day.” Psalm 25:4-5

Waiting.  This has NEVER been my forte.  It’s probably one of the biggest reasons I hated group projects in school.  Waiting on someone else to complete what they said they would complete.  Wondering (err…worrying) if they actually would.  “Can I really trust you to get this right?  Am I going to be up all night the day before this assignment is due fixing the work you have done. Maybe I should just do the whole thing myself!”  When you have a Type “A”  personality, waiting is torture…waiting is a lack of control.  Control makes you feel secure. Waiting makes you feel weak and nervous.

It’s easy to approach our walk with the LORD the same way.  “Do I really trust you to get this right?  Maybe I should take care of ME myself.”  But this is not what we have been called to do.  God is love…and love is patient.

Often, when we seek direction or answers or provision, we approach God with one eye on the clock, with an attitude that says, “Ok God, I need this taken care of asap because I have a million other things to worry about.”  When we approach waiting on the LORD with this posture, we feel weak…we feel confused. We miss the point of waiting.

When God makes us wait for HIS perfect timing.  It does not make us weak…it makes us strong.  God does not force us to wait to punish us, or break us down.  We wait on the LORD to strengthen us.  Strengthen our faith.  Strengthen our resolve.  Teach us something about ourselves or something about God in the still and quiet that we would miss in the noise.

“Be still, and know that I am God” Psalm 46:10

“Wait on the LORD: be of good courage, and he shall strengthen thine heart: wait, I say, on the LORD.” Psalm 27:14

“But those who wait on the LORD, Shall renew their strength; They shall mount up with wings like eagles,They shall run and not be weary,They shall walk and not faint.”  Isaiah 40:31

When we wait on the LORD, it allows us to be more like Him.  Worship God in the waiting.  Be thankful for the knowledge, that whatever you are waiting on Him for, He’s got it under control.  Take comfort in the security that God asks us to wait, He is doing so because He LOVES us. He is making us more and more like Him.

“Beloved, now we are children of God; and it has not yet been revealed what we shall be, but we know that when He is revealed, we shall be like Him, for we shall see Him as He is.”

1 John 3:2

I don’t know if you needed to hear today as much as I did, but it is powerful.  What are you waiting on the Lord for today?
